Bitcoin

Bitcoin with a capital “B” is a peer-to-peer decentralized ledger technology that enables decentralized electronic transactions, brought online in 2009 by a mysteriously pseudonymous group or individual known as Satoshi Nakamoto. Using decentralized technology, it allows individuals to securely and anonymously transact without the need for a central intermediary. There will only ever be 21 million bitcoins in existence.

The term bitcoin spelled with a lowercase "b" refers to the currency unit used on the Bitcoin network. It is the basic unit of measurement for transactions on the Bitcoin blockchain.
